Top 5 World Problems

(1-5 from “most serious” to “least serious”)
1.     There are a lot of uneducated individuals that live in this world.
2.     Within this day and age, beauty is consistently seen as the gateway to happiness, as seen in how much presence plastic surgery has in this world.  There have been over 100,000 number of nose jobs performed within the last year alone and 4,000+ surgeries performed on patients 18 and younger.
3.     In this society, many of the Millennials that post on social media often post self absorbed things.
4.     Some 795 million people in the world do not have enough food to lead a healthy active life.
5.     Homelessness is ridiculously prevalent, with statistics of up to 2.3 million people experience being homeless. Forty percent of these individuals are retired veterans, which makes it even more sad.

Explanation:
The reason why I chose the first option is because I believe that education is important and crucial to a fulfilling life. I believe that through education, everyone can have the confidence to set forth on his/her goals. I also believe that the standard of beauty is an alarming issue that needs to be addressed; our society needs to understand that beauty comes in all different kinds of forms. Millennials are also very self-absorbed—I am not immune to such a disease. I think that when it comes to our society, we seek self-gratification first. Health is also an important issue, because our bodies and minds come first, and if we cannot properly take care of ourselves, how can we take care of anyone else? Homelessness is highly prevalent, but it has been ongoing for years, and I do not believe it can change overnight, which is why it was chosen to be the last spot on the list.

(1-5 from “most possible to implement” to “least possible to implement”)
1.     Solution: Even though it is hard and there are some law issues with giving food to individuals, I think that it would be awesome if all restaurant establishments give their leftover food from the day to starving individuals.
2.     Solution: In order to progress society, there should be an app that allows its members to post enlightening pictures of their kind actions and allows for the sharing of positive energy throughout the community.
3.     Solution: By providing free informational workshops that introduce these illiterate individuals to knowledge, we can provide them a gateway into expanding their minds and their worlds.
4.     Solution: Apart from creating self -beauty workshops that focus on each individual’s inner and intellectual beauty, there should be a mirror invention that allows individuals to see themselves normally but also view encouraging messages on the side of the mirror, such as “You look beautiful today,” “approximately this percentage of people have freckles,” “beauty marks are seen as exquisite in these countries, etc.”
5.     Solution: By creating a community of small homes, such as the one pictured below, a community of recent homeless individuals can work together in a community without the fear of being alone or judged. By ensuring a stress free, nonjudgmental work environment in a like-minded community, the possibilities are endless.

Explanation:
I chose the food situation to be the best solution to be implemented in real life because there are organizations currently present who do take the initiative to give their food to homeless shelters, but unfortunately, recent laws have passed requesting that this action be prevented due to improper packages of food sent to shelters—they have to be in a good condition in order to be consumed. I think the app idea would increase a more positive community, instead of a self-centered one. I believe that knowledge is power, and I love that there are educational workshops funded by the goodwill of some major corporate giants. The beauty workshops would be great because it would teach the youth population that it is okay to look different because beauty is all about being different. Although a community of small homes would be ideal, I think that finding homeless individuals willing to partake in the project would take time, even years plus the funding as well.

Talk about first world problems, right?

  1. Hello Lauren, I am Yukiko, I enjoyed reading your post. It is interesting that you ranked increasing problems of plastic surgery for the fourth place. It is because to me, your fifth issues seem more necessary than the plastic surgery issues. Therefore, I can tell your have high aware of beauty. And these solutions are specific and implementable.
